Originally from Illinois, Ramsey moved to Utah in 1887 and studied under prominent Utah artist John Hafen before continuing his training in Chicago, Boston, New York, and Paris. Though best known for his portraits and murals—including work for the LDS temple in Hawaii—Ramsey also created still lives that reflect his quiet reverence for everyday beauty and his deep grounding in classical art traditions.
