“I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head.”

Bronze sculpture of Joseph Smith's First Vision

Hall is a descendant of painter John B. Fairbanks and a youthful student of sculptor Avard T. Fairbanks, his great uncle, both of whom had an enormous influence on Hall. This traditional realist figurative sculptor and painter continues the artist tradition of his forbearers. His artistic strengths include multifigured haute-relief narrative bronzes and monumental pieces. One bronze, Angel of the Resurrections, is a centerpiece to the Lynndyl Juab County Cemetery. As a youth, he filled his family's basement with frescoes and was encouraged by his mother to pursue his passion for painting and sculpture. He is considered one of the most significant sculptors in America with international experience in Italy and Russia, where he served an LDS Mission in St. Petersburg. He has cast a monumental piece titled The Russian Family for Ekaterinburg. At present, he is producing a series of large haut-re-lief bronzes of Book of Mormon themes. He has received awards in six SMA exhibitions; three major awards from the National Sculpture Society of which he is a member, in addition to numerous awards from the Art Renewal Center International Salon.

Michael Hall studied painting at Russian Academy of Art, St. Petersburg; Carl Bloch Academy of Art; Pio Rossi Studio, Pietrasanta, Italy.
