Jean Baptiste Auguste Leloir (French, 1809 - 1892)
Auguste Leloir, a key figure in a family of painters, was married to watercolorist Héloïse Colin (1820-1874), father to painter Alexandre-Louis Leloir and illustrator Maurice Leloir, and uncle to Édouard Toudouze.
In 1835, he earned the 3rd Grand Prix of Rome and exhibited at the Salon that same year. He later received recognition with a 3rd class medal at the 1839 Salon and a 2nd class medal at the 1841 Salon for his painting of Homer, which was acquired by the State and placed in the Louvre Museum.
Leloir was known for creating historical, religious, and mythological scenes, while also excelling in portraiture.
