In December 1926, while at the training quarters for prizefighters, he talked the French middlewight champion René Devos into posing for him. He also hired an unnamed black boxer as a model. Using these two men, he sculpted individual statuettes and groupings, most of them studio pieces about twenty-seven inches tall.
