Italian Sculpture of Christ as the Good Shepherd
Holding a shepherd's crook in his left hand and comforting a child with his right, this nineteenth-century Italian statue depicts Christ as the Good Shepherd. The work is beautifully sculpted, using traditional techniques and materials dating from Medieval religious sculpture workshops, many of which have unbroken master-student genealogies dating to the nineteenth-century, when this work was made.
