Hermann Herzog was a German-born landscape painter who emigrated to the United States and became closely associated with the Hudson River School and later Luminist traditions. A prolific traveler, Herzog explored the American West extensively, producing atmospheric landscapes that capture the varied terrain and dramatic light of regions still relatively unfamiliar to Eastern audiences. His work reflects both European academic training and a distinctly American fascination with wilderness and natural grandeur.
