This painting is meant to capture a
possible moment in time, when Bathsheba
suddenly senses the eyes of an unknown
stranger in the darkness. As I've studied
the Biblical account of this story, I have
been struck by the contrast between how
the situation is portrayed in the text versus
how Bathsheba is typically portrayed in
art, music, and Sunday school
discussions. My visual interpretation leans
on my own sympathies as I consider the
circumstances, events, and prophetic
parable set forth in the Biblical narrative
