Seeking God by Michael Hall
Seeking God
Michael Hall (American, b. 1970)
Bronze, 18 × 12 × 6 in.
This bronze sculpture portrays Joseph Smith’s First Vision, in which he recounted, “I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head.” Hall’s composition dramatizes the moment of divine encounter—Joseph’s body straining against earthly forces, his face and arm lifted heavenward in supplication.
Michael Hall is a descendant of painter John B. Fairbanks and was mentored in his youth by sculptor Avard T. Fairbanks, his great uncle. A traditional realist in both sculpture and painting, Hall is acclaimed for multi-figured narrative bronzes and monumental works, including Angel of the Resurrections at the Lynndyl Juab County Cemetery and The Russian Family in Ekaterinburg, Russia. He has studied in Italy and Russia, earning awards from the National Sculpture Society, the Art Renewal Center International Salon, and multiple SMA exhibitions.
