Joseph saw his brothers and he recognized them, but acted as a stranger.” - Genesis 42:7
After 30 years cut off from his family by spiteful brothers who sold him into slavery, Joseph sits before them for the first time, unrecognized behind the robes of Egypt’s royalty. Despite the power to inflict great vengeance on his brothers, Joseph accepts his lineage, choosing forgiveness and reconciliation. On either side of Joseph's throne are 7 stalks of wheat, one side dying, and the other side flourishing. These symbolize Joseph's ability to interpret dreams and thus foretell the 7 years of plenty and famine which helped him ascend to his position of power which now cloaks him and separates him from his brothers.
