Sri Lankan Sapphire and Diamond Ring
20th century
14K white gold, sapphires, and diamonds
This striking ring is centered with two novelty step-cut natural blue sapphires from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), together weighing approximately 10.74 carats. Distinguished by their asymmetrical, sculptural forms, the sapphires display an intense, dark blue color and excellent symmetry—characteristics long associated with Sri Lanka’s historic sapphire deposits. The unconventional pairing of the stones creates a dynamic focal point that departs from traditional single-stone ring designs.
Surrounding and accenting the sapphires are eighty-four round brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approximately 0.92 carats. The diamonds are carefully set along the perimeter and shoulders of the ring, enhancing the sapphires’ saturated color while adding brilliance and definition. Crafted in 14K white gold with a high-polish finish, the mounting balances modern design with fine-jewelry craftsmanship.
Sri Lankan sapphires have been prized since antiquity for their clarity and vibrant hues, and this ring exemplifies a contemporary interpretation of that legacy. Accompanied by a GIA sapphire report, the piece reflects both gemological rigor and expressive design.
