A German Lüsterweibchen, or "Little Chandelier Woman," is a chandelier consisting of antlers arranged horizontally with a female figure placed at one end. Traditionally, the females depicted in such Lüsterweibchen were figures found in fables, female Saints or Madonnas, who were dressed in richly colors traditional or representational dress. The antlers used are red stag; and it was along the antler that the light source was held. The arms of the female figure end at the elbow. The very first of these chandeliers were made at the end of the 14th century. They found wider distribution in southern Germany throughout the 16th century and again rose to popularity at the end of the 19th century.
