French Empire Revival Mantel Clock
Gilt and patinated bronze, glass, enamel, 17 × 10 × 6.5 in.
French, c. 1900 | Movement by Vincent et Cie, Paris

This majestic early 20th-century mantel clock showcases the Empire Revival style through a rich display of Neoclassical ornamentation. The architectural case features fluted columns, rosettes, and anthemia, while the frieze presents hippocampi amid olive and laurel branches. A gilded relief of Cupid and Psyche decorates the enamel dial, which is ringed by a celestial band of gold stars.

The eight-day, two-train movement, marked Vincent et Cie, Médaille d’Argent, strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. Winged caryatid figures and a finely engraved pendulum add to the clock’s commanding presence and mechanical precision.
