American artist Walter Rane earned his BFA from Art Center College of Design, where he studied figure drawing and excelled in the traditional approach to drawing the human form. During the early 1990s, The Church of Jesus Christ asked him to create works of art on religious themes, painting scenes from the Book of Mormon and events from the life of Jesus Christ. Rane's work has been exhibited on the East and West Coasts, and Utah, and he has permanent collections at the Museum of Church History and Art in Salt Lake City, Utah; the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah; and Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Virginia. His landscapes are less well known, but are still consistent depictions of Utah, which he uses as the backdrops to his renowned commissions.
