"John Fery was born in Hungary and studied in the different art centers of Europe. In 1886 he came to the United States on a commission to paint pictures for the Northern-Pacific Railroad to be exhibited at the Chicago World's Fair. He has made his home in this country ever since, and made a specialty of Western scenery. Many of his paintings are in the homes and business houses of well-known people of the East. In the West he has made a number of paintings of Glacier National Park, for the Great-Northern Railway, also pictures of California and Arizona for the Southern-Pacific Railroad. From Oregon scenery he painted a number of large canvasses for the Oregon-Journal Building of Portland."
