The Purple Sage (c. 1930) by Frank J. Vavra

Frank J Vavra (1892 - 1967) began his career as a self-educated artist before enrolling in the Denver Art Academy. His early impressions of an pioneer town, Wyoming's crossroads center since the earliest Indian days, were often colorful material for his paintings. Beginning with realistic work and looking at the non-objective work completed later in his life, Vavra was mostly remembered for his impressionistic landscapes of the Southwest.
