The Villeroy & Boch ceramic company was founded in 1836 in Mettlach, Germany and is internationally known for their production of table wares.

This stein depicts the Swiss legend of Wilhelm Tell, a renowned marksman sentenced to death for rebellion. Tell was given the opportunity to save his own life by shooting an apple from the top of his son's head in one attempt. Tell succeeded and sparked a rebellion against Austrian rule.
