Sterling silver trophy cup, having urn shape flanked by two handles, inscribed, "The Links, MacDonald Cup 1973, Won by Nelson Doubleday", underside marked "Reproduction Sterling 1200, 1". Charles Blair Macdonald (1855 – 1939) was a major figure in early American golf. He built the first 18-hole course in the United States, was a driving force in the founding of the United States Golf Association, won the first U.S. Amateur championship, becoming a prolific figure in American golf course architecture. In 2007, Macdonald was elected as a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, in the Lifetime Achievement category.
