Sharpshooter (1908) by Henry August Schwabe (American/New Jersey, 1843-1916)


A playful painting by the serious and highly-awarded German-American artist, widely known as H. August Schwabe, who studied the Royal Academy in Munich, the Academie Julien in Paris, and was a pupil and assistant to the American artist William Merritt Chase. Schwabe was awarded a Gold Medal at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair for his painting. He regularly exhibited at the New York Academy of Design, and was known for his excellent figurative work.
