A pair of Louis XVI-style carved walnut armchairs with gros point needlepoint upholstery in the style of Aubusson tapestry. The carved and shaped upholstered back rests depict scenes of courting set within the countryside, leading to scrolled partially upholstered armrests with rosette detailing, above knees carved with cornflowers and a carved skirt with a central floral-filled cartouche offset with scrolling filigree. The broad seats are upholstered with bordered images of delicate bouquets against a maroon ground with scrolling foliage. The chairs are raised on tapering legs with carved moldings, with red silk upholstered backs. Measures: 38 ¾ x 27 x 23 x 18 inches.
