Born in Utah, the award-winning (i.e. San Jose Museum of Art, Portland Museum of Art, Springville Museum of Art) painter Kent Wallis (b. 1945) is known for his brightly colored paintings full of painterly brushwork and heavy impasto, which create the dramatic visual and sculptural essence of the canvas.
After earning Bachelors and Masters degrees from Utah State University in Business Administration, Wallis was seeking to feed his creative spirit and so, revisited a passion he had at a younger age: painting. Largely a self-taught artist, Wallis' works are an emotive outlet full of color, blending romantic realism and impressionism aesthetics in rapid brushstrokes and rich compositions. Wallis is a member of the Society of American Impressionists, as well as one of the ten charter members of the Northern California Society of Plein Air Painters and a member of the Plein Air Painters of America.
