Monumental Japanese cloisonné (shippo) Meiji Charger, (circa 1870)
A very large and exceptionally made enamel dish in the form of a blooming lotus flower with a visvavajra (i.e. double vajra or drone), the sacred Buddhist symbol used to create the universe, at the center of the dish, surrounded by octopus scrolling. The foot and base of the dish is decorated with ornate lotus vines and flowers on a blue enamel background.
