Medallions of King David & Bathsheba and Othello & Desdemona

$5,750.00

A pair of exquisite bas relief bronze plaques by the prestigious French sculptor Emile Louis Picault (1833 - 1915), trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and later becoming one of the most awarded sculptors of the nineteenth century and creator of several major monuments throughout France. The first of this pair of medallions features King David looking on Bathsheba — the biblical doomed romance. The second is from Shakespeare's Othello, depicting the moor and his Venetian wife. These two sculpture were almost certainly made about the time Picault was assisting in the decoration of the Paris Opera.
