Marble bust of a Young Woman by Louis Julien (Jules) Franceschi
A white marble bust of a young female on a green marble base by 19th century French sculptor Louis Julien (Jules) Franceschi (1825-1893). In this romantic representation, a small bouquet of flowers adorn a head of curls, with delicate facial features masterfully carved and detailed; yet, low cut fabric only just drapes the shoulders of the form and challenges the apparent innocence of the young woman.
A student of François Rude, Louis Franceschi was a sculptor of religious subjects, figures and portraits. He received accolades for his work throughout his career, earning medals in 1861, 1864 and 1869, and in 1874 was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur.
