"For Us" by Walter Rane

AMERICAN, b. 1949

For Us depicts the moment after the Resurrection when Christ ascended to the Father to have His sacrifice accepted, completing His mission to save mankind. Emerging from a field of abstracted chaos, Jesus offers His body and spirit as a sacrifice to God, rising “into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us” (Hebrews 9:24). His outstretched arms mirror His position on the cross, as does the deep red behind Him. “This moment,” said Rane, “was alluded to in ancient times through the wave-sheaf offering.”
