Hermann Eschke was a student of Wilhelm Herbig at the Berlin Academy from 1841-1845. He then studied with William Krause until 1848 and went to Paris in 1849 to the studio of the painter Eugène Marine Lepoittevin. Here he studied the landscape of Normandy and Brittany and finally in 1850 the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. Five years later he established a studio in Berlin. Seascapes and coastal views were his favorite subjects.
