Elephant Bookends by Ary Bitter (French, 1883 - 1973)


A pair of Elephant bookends on green marble stands by the critically acclaimed sculptor Ary Bitter, who studied with Louis-Ernest Barrias at the École national supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, before become a celebrated and regular exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Français. Bitter made both small and monumental works, and his sculptures can be found in several museums including the Musée d'Orsay (Paris).
