An elegantly substantial French Daum crystal ashtray of abstract, organic form. It is signed on the lower edge "Daum France". The Daum crystal studio was found in 1878 by Jean Daum, in Nancy, France. Daum's sons, Auguste and Antonin, oversaw the growth of the studio throughout the burgeoning Art Nouveau period. The Daum studio quickly beaome one of the major forces in the Art Nouveau movement, seriously rivalling Gallé, and, during the Universal Exhibition of 1900, was awarded a ‘Grand Prix’ medal.
