Comparison Diptych by Mary Sauer

The nature of comparison is such that one thing always is seen as better and the other worse. C.S. Lewis wrote, “It is comparison that makes you proud…Once the element of competition has gone, pride has gone.” Just as damaging is when one compares their weaknesses to another’s perceived strengths. Satan uses this comparison to perpetuate the lie that if someone else has something then there is less available for us. The truth is that goodness is infinite. I wanted to show this by using two similar images, but painting them in different ways to show that they could be simultaneously different and beautiful.
