Cabin Sign Painted by the Artist Grant Wood
Grant Wood is perhaps best known for his iconic painting American Gothic. His depictions of rural life have become synonymous with that post-impressionist era of Americana. This sign was painted in the early 1930s by Wood for his "Aunt Fran," Francis Prescott, a key patron and promoter of Wood's career. "Willawood" was the name of Aunt Fran's Minnesota cabin, which Wood frequented for vacations and painting excursions. Painted on both sides, it is a miniature replica of the cabin and its surroundings. The sign comes with a letter from Aunt Fran's descendants and photos, attesting to its provenance and authenticity.
