Arthur, The Duke of Wellington by Edmund Cotterill

Renowned for his equine sculpture, here the artist Edmund Cotterill (English, 1795 - 1860) portrays his contemporary, the Duke of Wellington astride his war horse, Copenhagen, whom he famously rode when defeating Napoleon and his armies at the battle of Waterloo (1815). Cast in bronze, Cotterill's statue was designed for a monument destined — but never built — for a public place near Apsley House (i.e. Wellington's home) on the corner of Hyde Park in London.
