A Louis XVI Monumental Armoire Deux Corps
A magnificent 18th century armoire with an 'en chapeau', or curved central pediment with a deep steeped out molding, which sits above a frieze carved with beaded and guilloche pattern. The centre dormant panels of both the upper and lower case is fluted with carved wheat motifs, and flanked by doors with raised beveled panels at their centre with a series of stepped out moldings carved with an egg and dart motif, and inset with rosette medallions in the corners. Two drawers with a molded border encasing a garland of bountiful foods and foliate are support by a stylized ribbon and sit above brass pulls. The interior of the upper case reveals three shelves, while the lower contains two drawers with brass plates above a single shelf. The shaped apron has a central wreath motif and the entire piece is raised on short cabriole legs.
