Black Forest Style Carved Lindenwood Bear
A finely hand-carved and detailed form of a walking bear in the Black Forest style popular in the late nineteenth century, with glass eyes, one of which has been replaced with wood. The Black Forest style did not originate in the Black Forest area of Germany, as the name would suggest, but in Brienz, Switzerland. Traditional carvings have been crafted there since the early 19th century, usually from walnut and linden wood.
