19th Century Spanish Walnut and Ebonized Wood Vargueno


A two piece, nineteenth century Spanish vargueno, or portable  desk, made of walnut with mounted brass brackets, two tracery pulls and shaped escutcheon, with two brass handles on either end of box for transportation. The drop front opens to an interior divided into twelve drawers with paneled ebonized decorative fronts and pulls and two cabinets with locking mechanisms, as well as a central drawer beneath a carved shell motif raised on columns. The chest is raised on an ebonized base with four ball-turned legs that are supported with a curved iron trestle. Measures: 52 x 42 x 25 inches.
