The Standing Invitation is a portrait of a Utah Pioneer Home. The home is warm and inviting, and ready for all to be welcomed in. Though the invitation is always there, it is only truly extended to a select few, as race, religion, address, citizenship, and other factors tend to quietly inform decisions on who is allowed through the door. This painting came as a direct response to how immigrants have recently been treated, but extends well beyond that. The Standing Invitation asks us to look past our biases and fear and invite all to be given the opportunity to be invited in.
