Dusk falls on Salt Lake City, the LDS Temple illuminated amongst the growing darkness. The loose brushstrokes and rich, mauve palette depict aerial views of the city from Capital Hill, the hard lines and headlights leading the perspective within the composition toward the Temple, whose silhouette stands glowing impressively against the contemporary cityscape. As is representative of Winborg's paintings, the smallest section of the painting is as interesting as the painting as a whole.
A Cache Valley native, Winborg has had a passion for creating art since he was a child when he started painting with watercolors by his father’s side. He moved on to painting very large acrylic portraits as a teenager. At age 15, his first completed acrylic painting was purchased by the Utah Education Association; at age 16, Winborg received his first commission. Winborg has won several awards throughout his artistic career, including “Outstanding Art Student for the State of Utah” and Masters Award at the Springville Museum of Art. His work has been displayed in several shows, which include the LDS International Church Art Show 2002, 2005, and 2008, as well as being featured in the Ensign, New Era, Liahona, and Friend magazines. In 2011, he received Honorable Mention at the Sears Dixie Art Invitational. In 2012, he won the Viewer's Choice Award, Best of Show Award, and the Purchase Prize at the Sears Dixie Art Invitational. Winborg was adjudicator of the 2013 Dixie Show and won the Viewer's Choice award at the 2014 show, and was the Featured Artist at the 25th annual CNS Art & Soup 2013 show.
