Monumental Louis-Philippe Mantle Clock
$12,500.00
This fine yellow marble mantle clock is surmounted by a large bronze sculpture of a Roman general. Such figures were popular in contemporary works by Jacques-Louis David (French, 1784-1825) and Jean-Baptiste Stouf (French, 1742-1826). They demonstrated the aspiration to achieve a culture on par, both militarily and philosophically, with ancient Greek and Roman culture.
